Mooresville is called Race City USA. It is home to several NASCAR team shops and headquarters. We have enjoyed going around to look and tour the facilities and see the history that is the sport of racing.
Now I know that some people say driving around in a circle in a car speeding is not a sport, boo you. I know it is.
NASCAR racers are well-conditioned athletes just like football and baseball, hockey, soccer, players etc. Can you drive around in a car for over 500 miles without stopping going at speeds in excess of 200 mph?
Then there are people that say well I don’t like it because they only race on Sunday and that is the Lord’s Day. Well yes, Sunday is the Lord’s Day but so is Monday – Saturday for that matter.
But unlike other sports that play on Sunday NASCAR is very different they have chapel services before each event for the drivers and their families to attend. They also openly have a prayer before the start of each race along with a standing and singing of the star spangled banner. (Of which I have just read how that came to be in the book I am currently reading called Under God)
So many community projects are funded and available thanks to these drivers who give back.
Some of who only race to keep a charity funded.
Yes, there are a couple with a whiny attitude and a sour face and ugly words, but doesn’t every sport have some of those.
That is why it is increasingly necessary that we monitor whom the kids like and want to cheer for. We make sure they know the whole person just not a figure behind a car and a team that makes them look good. It is not about who is the fastest or the best but it all boils down to character and we all should look at our own before we judge another’s.
Those who judge with righteous judgment are judging according to a person’s belief, according to their words and not their actions. That means we have to expose what they really believe because it is not just that they believe but in Whom they believe.
