After talking to family members and a friend it has occurred to me that the slides of darkness is a great metaphor for life. You know the slides I am talking about the ones on kid’s playgrounds that have a cover over them so that part of the fun and ride is done in the dark to make it more exciting.
While that can be fun and exciting for kids, more often for us adults it is a scary thought. Going through life not knowing what is going to happen from minute to minute, day to day, week to week, year to year.
We never know where the bends and curves might take us. Sometimes there are things we don’t expect. Everything goes too fast. Often we feel in the dark, unable to determine the next right step in our journey. And we never, no matter how much we want to, know where we’re going.
All we can do is give it up to God, enjoying what we can of this blind joyous ride, knowing at the end there will be a space filled with light and the delighted cries of our loved ones awaiting us.
Jeremiah 29:11-13
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
