Three minutes of wrestling is harder than a full season of any sport.
Wrestlers are constantly fighting for position, using every muscle in their body to gain the upper hand. It takes more heart to wrestle than it does to play any other sport. Other sports have games, wrestlers don't play games, they wrestle. Three minutes of hard work, all out, leave everything on the mat, working every muscle in your body until it hurts to move. That is this great sport that we all know and love.
We have finished our third season for wrestling this year. Conner, Adrianna, Wesley all did such an awesome job, we are very proud of them. Not a single one of them ever gave up or quit fighting while they were on the mat. Whether it was in the times of defeat or victory they showed good sportsmanship to their opponents, coaches, teammates and spectators that were there watching.
Conner went the whole season undefeated! He went into tournaments with a record of 7-0. He was placed in the 55lb weight class. Conner was confident that he could win and set his mind and determination to win, not only a medal but THE first place medal. He fought hard and was focused on each and every match. He won all of them going undefeated to win 1st place gold! In his total of three seasons of wrestling he has only lost 2 matches.
Wesley had a record of 5-2 for the season. We are proud of him for trying his best and never giving up. He wrestled hard this year never stopping the whole time he is on the mat. Wesley needs to learn to focus in on listening to only his coach and being able to drown out all the other noise. He also likes to look at the score when he is wrestling and needs to remember to keep his eyes on his opponent instead. He loves to wrestle and says after every match how much fun that was. As long as he is loving it and having fun we are happy with that. He is not focused and determined like Conner and Adrianna he just wants to have a good time. He was placed in the 50lb weight class. He came in 4th in tournaments and was very proud of himself and happy with that and so are we!
Adrianna or as we called her on the mat~ girlfriend ~ had a great first year. She went 5-2 for the season. She is focused and determined in wrestling the boys and beating them. She is fearless when she steps out on the mat, going full force and giving it her all. When she is able she does not hesitate to pick them up and slam them down to the mat. Her two losses were to boys who had two years of experience on her but she was not pinned, only beaten by points. One was by one point, the other by two. If she chooses to do this again next year she will again be a force to be reckoned with. She easily won over her teammates after the first week of practice when she showed them she was there to wrestle and not play around. Several of them were always at the mat cheering her on when she stepped out to wrestle. The ones cheering the loudest were Conner and Wesley! The boys are both so proud of her and the job she did.
For tournaments Adrianna was placed in the 55lb weight class. She won a bronze medal for 3rd place! Adrianna was also the only girl in the whole tournaments to win a medal. There were several girls at different levels (15 girls total) but she was the only one to place!
Yes, both Adrianna and Conner were in the same weight class. I knew this would happen when they were officially weighted in and Adrianna out weighted Conner by 7oz. They also knew it was a possibility but not until tournaments. So, the very match that I had not wanted to watch was the last match of the day Saturday.
Adrianna vs. Conner
I told them to do their best and do not stop fighting, do not give up. I loved them both and no matter what it will all be okay. The coach told Conner he was on his own, that he was not going to coach him, this was his last match for the season and he should know what to do by now. He was going to coach Adrianna. Mike, Kasey, Wesley all cheered for Adrianna as well as several of the boys on the team. A couple boys cheered for Conner. I could not choose, so I cheered for both! It was a good hard fought match. They both know each other’s strength and weaknesses as they practiced together during the season some, and also at home with Conner teaching Adrianna new moves or ways to get out or break a hold. They wrestled for almost the whole three minutes. Conner finally was able to pin her with 10 seconds left on the clock in the third minute. He immediately gave her a big hug after the match and told her he was proud of her.
The only thing harder than being a wrestler is being the mom/dad of a wrestler!
