Conner continues to do very well in school keeping up his agreement he made to maintain all A’s. So with his report card that came home he was again on the high honor roll. He still maintains his Mohawk haircut and I actually love the look of it on him. He has decided that if he makes a B then he wants to let it grow out and have it shaggy. I am hoping he changes his mind. He still has not changed his mind about going into the Air Force after graduation and continues to read and learn about it and planes every chance he gets.
He was nominated and encouraged to try out for the Battle of the Books at school. He did not make the team (only the top 12 of test scores made the team) but he is the first alternative if one of the twelve drops out. There are nine 5th graders and three 4th graders on the team. We told him we were/are very proud of him for at least trying out. The books ranged from a fourth grade reading level up to seventh grade level. He also won the spelling bee for his class and was third in the fourth grade. He says he didn’t do well overall (school wide) and was disappointed but he did his best and that was all we told him to do. He also entered a contest sponsored by the United Way entitled -Teacher Effectiveness: My Best Teacher
He chose his third grade teacher and entered in the poster category. Out of the whole district he came in third place out of 100 kids. He accomplished all this while the wrestling season was going on. He can very much multi-task and stay focused. He has decided not to do football anymore and so now we are trying to decide what interest he wants to pursue. He is trying to decide between some type of musical lesson or trying something new. He also has been asked to join the USAA wrestling association to be able to compete in tournaments year round. This is something we are thinking about, as it would not be required every weekend, it is your choice when and where you want to go to compete.
He loves to read and will get completely lost in a book ignoring everything and everyone else. When he is not reading in his spare time he is building and rebuilding Star Wars Lego’s. He will spend hours by himself in his room building all kinds of vehicles.
He has a girl that is completely enamored with him calling my phone and talking to him at school. He told me, “Mom, I don’t like her for a girlfriend, but I will be nice”.
He continues to be a sweetheart and his heart is huge! He is very giving, caring, and loving. He is also growing too fast as he now is the big 10.
At dinner one night he kept asking when he will have a growth spurt like Kasey did. I told him soon. He looked at Mike and asked him when did he have one? As Mike was thinking about it I spoke up and said, “I don’t know about that but I do know he had a hair growth in high school”. We laughed at that, as the pictures we have from his high school days show he had a full, thick head of long hair.
