Last Day

I had to travel back down to “the home place” way Deep South Alabama for a funeral. My cousin was murdered by someone she knew. It was an unexpected tragedy for the family. We had not been close for several years as life took us in totally different directions but she was still family no matter what. On the drive back I had time to just reflect on my life and even remembering her as she was when I last saw her and spent time with her. It left me of course wondering…

What if you knew this was your last day on earth?
Would that awareness change your perspective and the choices you make on a day-to-day basis?
Would the “things” you think are important still seem as important?
Would you treat your spouse differently?
Would your conversations with your friends change?
Is there something you would take action on that you’ve been postponing until the time is right?
Would you interact differently with your children?
Would you be humbled or ashamed of what you are remembered for?
How many people’s lives will be changed without you in it? Would it be for better or worse?

J.R. Miller said,
“The only thing that walks back from the tomb with the mourners and refuses to be buried is the character of a man. What a man is survives him. It can never be buried.”

So what does your character say about you?
