Conner is doing well overall. He has had an eventful past few months. He finished first in tournaments for the rec. league wrestling going undefeated for the second straight season in a row. In four years of wrestling he lost only 3 matches. After the regular season ended we decided to check out the AAU league for wrestling. We have people from church whose boys are on that team and had been asking us to come join them. It was a different experience than the rec league. The coaches there have been coaching for over 15- 20 years, and they are dedicated to these boys. They work well and encourage them always striving them to be their best. It was a different atmosphere to be in. It allowed me the chance to just be a mom and enjoy watching Conner wrestle. I didn’t realize how much I had missed that since becoming a coach. Conner did well in the first couple of tournaments receiving medals for 2nd place. He also received his first injury ever in four years of practice and competing. He landed just the right (as opposed to wrong) way on his shoulder and the force of him going down, along with the weight of him and the other boy all landing on that one certain spot fractured his shoulder on a growth spot, and sprained ligaments and muscles. He was in a sling for 8 weeks and not allowed any physical activity. That was hard to keep him still, a very active, adventurous eleven year-old boy to be still? HA He did get more reading and schoolwork done and also found some cool games on the computer to entertain him.
He is doing well in school maintaining his A averages. He struggles a bit with what they call Shurley English, but he excels in History, Science and Reading. He has made several friends that he can depend on. One boy in particular he has really attached to and cherishes his friendship.
Conner also has been budding out in church choir. He did a solo part in the church program last week and he auditioned for a solo drama part in the Children’s Musical Choir Camp this summer. He is very funny and doesn’t mind being the center of attention.
Conner is still my little man, but he is growing so much. He is not growing fast like Kasey did; he is more a slow and steady growth. He of course would prefer to have a sudden spurt and shoot up at least four or five inches. He continues to wear his heart on his sleeve and is very thoughtful and concerned with others. He is very protective of Wesley and Kasey as he worries about her.
